Research: Branding

A programme that is similar to my documentary is Sun Sex and Suspicious Parents. This programme is broadcasted on BBC3 and therefore uses a variety of the codes and conventions that are suitable for the channel.
BBC 3 has a logo as shown below as a strong marketing tool in order to make the consumers aware of which channel to access their desired programmes.

BBC 3

  • BBC 3 is a mixed genre channel for young audiences.
  • Due to the young target audience, it produces documentaries that feature 16-34 year olds as they are young in both spirit and their mindset.
  • The key programme areas of BBC3 are: Comedy (eg. Bad Education), Entertainment (eg. Russel Howard's Good News), Drama (eg. In The Flesh), Documentary/Current Affairs( eg. The Call Centre) and Factual, such as 'Our Way'.  My documentary would probably come under the area of Factual as it shows statistics and facts about underage drinking and the unfortunate truths of what really happens at festivals. However, some may consider the programme to be put under the topics of Documentary and Entertainment as some may find it humorous.
  • Due to the young audience, BBC3 has its own website and social media sites which are accessible and marketed on the website. This shows that the programme are innovative and have an active audience.

  • It is evident that my documentary would evidently suit the channel of BBC3 as it focuses on teenagers/ young adults and is related to alcohol consumption, similar to other programmes that are broadcasted on this channel. Although it shares similarities to other documentaries that are a part of this channel, I feel that my product has a USP as it is recorded by those who are in the documentary themselves, creating a truer and more valid picture.
